I see this pattern more generally and I think it comes down to the fact that Gen Z hasn’t yet learned that a vote isn’t a love match; it’s buying a ticket on an express train. As such, it might not include your preferred stop, and you might need to compromise or walk a bit to get to your preferred location, but it’s gonna get you a hell of a lot closer to where you wanna go than getting on the opposite train headed in the wrong direction (or waiting on the platform in protest and going nowhere at all).
