As if we needed any more evidence that the concept of “competitive authoritarianism” is a complete sham. Unfortunately, Venezuela being a narco-state via the military means that they’ll never collapse internally, yet a US intervention would rank up there with Iraq in terms of how much of a resource suck it would be to carry out successfully, nevermind however much time it would take to build up actual democratic institutions and dealing with the cartel/ex-regime insurgency.
