This isn't talked about very much. Epstein's bizzare sweetheart plea deal from 2008 granted his co-conspirators full immunity from any prosecution, something completely unheard of. The prosecutor of his case also let his lawyers decide what video evidence was privileged and allowed to be taken as evidence.
Despite all this people are still not fully convinced the government knew what was going on(lots of them probably were complicit and also divulged in the sexual deviant actions alongside him) in his houses and island prior to his arrest. That he had more favor/leniency than anyone else ever found guilty of similar crimes and that he didn't kill himself.
