Sanctions have failed to meaningfully deter Russia or Iran in the past; anything besides a total Victorian-era-esque naval blockade of Iran via multiple nuclear carriers and Tomahawk/JASSM-equipped SSBNs is quite literally worse than useless at this point.
The west is in for a rude awakening when we realize that autocrats and theocrats do not obsess over lines on charts like we do, and would genuinely prefer to starve and impoverish hundreds of millions of their citizens and decimate their economies for decades instead of capitulating to foreign demands.
