Lawmakers of the ruling party have dealt another blow to Tunisia’s young and fragile post-revolution institutions by stripping the administrative courts – considered as the last independent judicial body – of the power to oversee and verify the upcoming presidential election, scheduled on October 6 by President Kaes Sayed, who is assured of victory.
The electoral power will instead be entrusted to the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), whose members are handpicked by President Sayed.
