Port automation is a very hot topic of conversation, and even some contention as it relates to unions, on this sub. This article provides what is, to me, a very surprising and data-driven counterargument to the current narrative of "US ports are bad because they aren't automated". According to the evidence here, automation doesn't determine a port's efficiency to a huge degree, or at least it doesn't arbitrate whether or not a port is efficient.
