Why isnt this the biggest story right now?

  1. This is regrettable. Only yesterday I accessed the archive for some books. I’ll be sure to check for bookmarked references when it comes back online.

  2. SS – for those of you who aren’t aware, the Internet Archive is under a massive DDOS attack. This follows a recent legal take down of its open book program which alleged copyright violations to the tune of $621 million. Why is this relevant to this sub … the internet archive holds snapshots frozen in time of nearly every website on the web. When a news outlet stealth edits a story to remove something inconvenient, embarrassing. When someone publishes something embarrassing and wants to erase it from public memory, Archive records it.

With nearly all records now in digital form on the web, the holders of that information can modify, erase, and revise anything they see fit and leave no record of doing so. Its the memory hole we’ve been warned about and the “hacker” collective now trying to take it down is most likely not who they claim to be.
